Ethereum's layer-2 chain, Lisk, declares the conclusion of its initial incubator program
Lisk, an Ethereum layer-2 protocol, has announced the opening of applications for the second cohort of its Blockchain Incubation Hub training program, specifically designed for African startups. The training program is set to begin on May 19, 2023.
The six-month incubator offers a unique opportunity for African blockchain projects to receive mentorship and funding. Each participant could receive up to $20,000 in grants, with a total of $150,000 available for the second cohort. Additionally, successful startups may secure an additional $100,000 in funding at the end of the program.
The first batch of the training program, which concluded recently, consisted of 23 African startups. Notable participants included Tata iMali, TrendX, Afrikabal, Pokecoin, Jamit, and Nomachain. Lisk distributed $196,000 in grants to participants of the first batch.
The Blockchain Incubation Hub training program is supported by Swiss-based CV Labs. This initiative aims to foster the growth of African blockchain companies and contribute to the development of the blockchain ecosystem.
While the Ethereum Community Foundation (ECF) focuses on investing in projects that build on its network or contribute to developing its infrastructure, there is currently no public record of African companies receiving grants directly from the ECF or similar Ethereum grant programs. However, events such as ETH Nigeria 2025 are actively promoting Web3 adoption and building Ethereum-based projects in Africa.
Interested African startups can apply for the second cohort of Lisk's Blockchain Incubation Hub training program until April 12, 2023. For more information, visit the Lisk website.
Meanwhile, StarkWare, another Ethereum layer-2 protocol, launched a $4 million fund in February for startups looking to build on its protocol. The fund offers grants of up to $150,000 to beneficiaries.
As the blockchain industry continues to grow, initiatives like Lisk's Blockchain Incubation Hub and StarkWare's fund are providing valuable resources for African startups to develop their blockchain projects and contribute to the global blockchain ecosystem.
