Deutsche Telekom Expands 5G Network and Fiber-Optic Broadband Across Germany

Deutsche Telekom, Germany's leading telecommunications company, is actively expanding its 5G mobile network coverage and fiber-optic broadband across the country. The company aims to reach 99% population coverage with 5G by the end of 2025 and connect an additional 2.5 million households to fiber this year.

The company's mobile network in Münster, Germany, has received an upgrade, with seven sites enhanced for LTE and three for 5G. This expansion has improved mobile internet coverage in the city and nearly 100% of its population now has access to fast mobile internet. Deutsche Telekom now operates 117 sites in Münster, with a new antenna site put into operation.

To support advanced services like 5G+ gaming with low latency, Deutsche Telekom is building an "ultra-capacity network" to double the current network capacity. This network is set to be available nationwide.

For those interested in checking the availability of 5G and fiber in their specific city, Deutsche Telekom offers tools such as the MeinMagenta app and official website coverage checkers. These platforms provide the most up-to-date info on network presence and service eligibility tailored to your address.

In addition to network expansion, Deutsche Telekom's mobile phone sites in Münster support the emergency call technology Advanced Mobile Location (AML) and the warning system Cell Broadcast. AML automatically transmits the location of emergency callers to the emergency control center, while Cell Broadcast sends danger messages to mobile phones in the affected radio cell in case of emergencies.

The network coverage has also been improved along major transportation routes such as the A1 and rail lines Bremen-Dortmund, Emden-Münster, and North Rhine-Westphalia East.

This expansion underscores Deutsche Telekom’s strategy to maintain leadership in both mobile and fixed networks across Germany. The company continues to invest significantly in fiber-optic broadband expansion and network capacity building to meet the increasing demand for bandwidth, which is growing by around 30% per year.

Deutsche Telekom's strategy to maintain leadership in both mobile and fixed networks across Germany includes the expansion of its 5G mobile network and fiber-optic broadband, utilizing technology to double the current network capacity, aiming for 99% population coverage with 5G by 2025. Advanced Mobile Location (AML) technology, a component of the company's emergency call service, also leverages technology to automatically transmit the location of emergency callers.
