Elon Musk's Questionnaire Favors CEO Position Resignation in Majority Vote

In a surprising turn of events, tech mogul Elon Musk found himself at the World Cup final in Qatar, alongside Jared Kushner, stirring up speculation about his ongoing involvement with Twitter. However, it's important to clarify that as of August 2025, Musk has not made a new announcement about his role as Twitter CEO following the poll he conducted.

Musk's tenure as Twitter CEO was short-lived, lasting from October 2022 to June 2023. During this time, he faced numerous criticisms, particularly over his proposed methods of content moderation, which drew the ire of civil liberties groups. His leadership was also questioned by a former Twitter employee, who claimed Musk to be incompetent.

In a bid to gauge public opinion, Musk launched a poll about his future on Twitter. Over 17.5 million users participated, with more than two-thirds responding. A significant majority, 57.5%, voted in favour of Musk stepping down as CEO.

Despite the poll results, Musk has not announced any new decision regarding his future as CEO of Twitter. Since stepping down, Linda Yaccarino has taken over as CEO, with Musk remaining the owner but no longer the CEO.

Musk's involvement with Twitter has caused concern among Tesla shareholders, who are hoping for him to step back and focus on the main business. The challenges faced by Tesla in recent months have added to this concern.

Meanwhile, the UN and EU have warned Twitter of potential sanctions, declaring that media freedom is not a toy. They have also criticised Twitter's decision to suspend several news reporters covering the platform.

Changpeng Zhao, an investor in Twitter, made a $500m investment towards Musk's takeover of the company. Dan Ives of Wedbush Securities predicted that the poll could lead to a shift in power and potentially signal an end to Musk's leadership on the platform. However, these predictions have yet to materialise.

As Musk continues to make headlines for his role in Tesla, the question of his future with Twitter remains unanswered. Russ Mould anticipates close observation of Musk's role in Tesla going forward, given his involvement with Twitter.
