Electronic music duo Noisia team up with Excite Audio for development of a novel digital audio effect plugin.

VISION 4X, a new VST/AU/AAX analyzer plug-in developed in collaboration with Noisia, is making waves in the world of music production and audio engineering. This innovative tool offers a comprehensive suite of visual analytical tools designed to help producers and engineers gain a deeper understanding of their audio signals.

Comprehensive Visual Analysis

VISION 4X features four high-definition visual analyzers that run simultaneously: spectrogram, bar graph, waveform, and phase correlation meter. These tools provide a comprehensive visualization of audio signals in various forms, allowing for a detailed analysis of sound sources, frequency spectrum, and more.

The Waveform Visualiser

The Waveform visualiser offers detailed information about sound sources, including pitch, volume, and timing. It also includes an 'Overshoot Highlight' feature that alerts when headroom is exceeded, ensuring a smoother audio production process.

The Spectrogram

The spectrogram tool in VISION 4X offers advanced information about low end frequencies in a mix. It has three visualization options: Transient Mode, Harmonic Mode, and All-round, providing flexibility to suit different analysis needs. Users can also freeze the frame and zoom into the frequency spectrum for detailed analysis.

The Phase Correlation Meter

The Phase Correlation Meter's center line indicates alignment issues, preventing audio loss when converting to mono. This tool, paired with the Waveform visualiser, runs simultaneously in real time with other tools in VISION 4X.

Customisable and Practical Features

VISION 4X boasts a customisable and resizable interface layout, enabling users to arrange and scale the visual modules to their workflow preferences. It supports VST, AU, and AAX formats and can be synced with any DAW, allowing users to tailor the analytical timeframe to their individual project.

Colour Maps and MIDI Retriggering

The spectrograph's display in VISION 4X is customisable with ten different Colour Maps to choose from. Additionally, VISION 4X offers MIDI retriggering capability, which helps achieve precise repeated analysis or synchronization with external controllers or DAW parameters.

Heatmaps and Reference Curves

VISION 4X also includes heatmaps and flexible oscilloscope views for detailed transient and anomaly detection in the audio signal. It offers genre-specific reference curves integrated into the spectrum analyzer, useful for targeted gain staging and mix analysis tailored for various music styles.

While VISION 4X is praised for its rich visual feedback and specialized analysis features, it may be most suitable for users primarily focused on frequency spectrum analysis due to its limited metering beyond visual modules. Despite this, it stands out by combining multiple detailed visual tools in a single plugin with customisable views and practical reference options developed in partnership with the electronic music group Noisia.

In summary, VISION 4X is a powerful and versatile audio analysis tool that offers a unique blend of detailed visual analysis, customisable views, and practical reference options, making it an invaluable asset for music producers and engineers seeking to elevate their audio production workflow.
