Electric Vehicle Domination in Norway: Tesla Model Y Leads in August Sales Amidst Record Market Share for Electric Vehicles

Electric vehicle (EV) sales in Norway reached a new high in August, with the Tesla Model Y leading the pack. The country's overall EV market share surged past 80%, marking a significant milestone for electric transportation.

In August 2025, the Tesla Model Y continued its global sales momentum, cementing its position as the best-selling electric vehicle (EV) in Norway. The US-based automaker's vehicles, including the Model Y produced at the Tesla Gigafactory Berlin, are recognised as American electric cars.

According to data shared by Sawyer Merritt, a longtime Tesla watcher, Tesla registered 2,450 Model Ys in August 2025. This marked a significant increase from the previous year, where EVs accounted for 95.7% of new car sales in Norway, rising to 98.4% in August 2025.

The Model Y's success in Europe is significantly influenced by the Tesla Giga Berlin factory, which began customer deliveries of the updated Model Y Performance earlier this week. The factory also celebrated building its 100,000th refreshed Model Y last month.

The Tesla Model Y's performance in Norway offers a glimpse into the EV future that Tesla has long been advocating for. The vehicle surpassed the Nissan Leaf as Norway's best-selling EV of all time and was one of the top 10 best-selling electric vehicles in the country.

The second-place EV was the Volkswagen ID. Buzz, with 889 units sold, while the Volkswagen ID.4 came in third with 637 deliveries. The Tesla Model 3 followed in fourth place with 552 deliveries, making Tesla's dominance at both the top and fourth spots a clear reinforcement of its leadership in Norway's EV market.

The Model Y's success in Norway is a testament to its appeal and a key factor in the country's shift towards electrification. With nearly every new car now being electric, the Model Y is leading the charge in this transition.

In addition to its success in Norway, the Tesla Model Y helped Tesla break sales records in both Turkey and South Korea in August 2025. The vehicle's global sales momentum continues to grow, indicating its significant impact in various markets.
