Electric Meets Tradition: Skoda's Luxury Superb iV Revamp

Electric-assisted Skoda Superb iV: Efficient Electricity-Powered Part-Time Vehicle

An icon reborn, the Skoda Superb iV is here, boasting an enhanced plug-in hybrid drive system that enables an electric range of over 100 kilometers - a significant upgrade from its predecessor. This alluring hybrid adds a tech-savvy touch to Skoda's flagship model, enticing corporate drivers, commuters, and family-oriented motorists alike.

The Legacy of Bohemian Grandeur

Tracing its roots back to 1934, the Superb model remains a testament to Czech craftsmanship. Though the model faced a brief hiatus during the post-WWII era, it was revived by Volkswagen in 1964, ushering in a new era of automotive excellence. And now, we're on the sixth generation of this classic division. The VW Passat has played a pivotal role in the Superb's evolution, contributing genes in the engine and interior design, while preserving the brand's signature charm and ingenuity.

Plugging in for the Future

While electric vehicles (EVs) like Skoda's Enyaq and Enroq are successful in the market, they often come with long waiting times. The Superb iV is not a "full-blooded" EV but leverages a 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine in conjunction with an 85-kW electric motor. This partnership produces 150 kW/204 PS and boasts a 27.5-kWh battery, more than double the capacity of the previous model. Frequent commuters will find this battery capacity sufficient for their needs, with the internal combustion engine spared for distances beyond 100 kilometers.

Collaborating with Volkswagen on the development of the Superb iV has streamlined production costs and created a commuter-friendly EV that avoids the lengthy wait lists associated with these models.

A Room with a View

Riding on the success of the newly released VW Passat estate, the Superb iV showcases increased space in the rear, thanks to its generous 2.85-meter wheelbase. Consequently, the VW Passat (exclusively available as an estate now) boasts a similar spatial feeling, while Skoda's offering has been slightly narrowed to accommodate the joint production in Bratislava, Slovakia.

A Shift in Gears

Bid farewell to the traditional gear lever, as the Superb iV diverted its focus to providing more air and space in the front cabin. The latest model presents a clean, sophisticated look accentuated by slimmer main headlights and rear lights, integrating Crystallinium to create a three-dimensional effect. This visual enhancement, accompanied by advanced driver assistance systems, brings the Superb's features in line with premium market standards.

Test drives of the Superb iV highlight its smooth interplay of electric and combustion engines, encouraging drivers to embrace their carbon-neutral driving journey without compromising on comfort and safety. According to early reviews, the Superb iV is a delightful blend of tradition, technology, and practicality that has the potential to sway EV skeptics back into the welcoming arms of sedans.
