In a significant move to bolster India's startup ecosystem, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ather Energy Limited. This collaboration, part of the Build in Bharat initiative spearheaded by the Startup Policy Forum (SPF), seeks to accelerate the growth of India's clean mobility and advanced manufacturing sectors.

Tarun Mehta, co-founder and CEO of Ather Energy, expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership, stating that it would assist founders in grappling with core technology hurdles and scaling high-quality products from India. Shweta Rajpal Kohli, President and CEO of the Startup Policy Forum, concurred, emphasizing that unlocking India's manufacturing potential through collaboration is crucial for building a globally competitive innovation ecosystem.

Under the MoU, both DPIIT and Ather Energy will offer strategic mentorship for deeptech startups. They will also provide infrastructure support for startups in the EV value chain, and participation in events like Startup Mahakumbh and on-ground exposure visits are part of the agreement.

Joint innovation programs such as the Bharat Startup Grand Challenge are also included in the MoU. Sanjiv Singh, Joint Secretary of DPIIT, underscored that the electric mobility sector in India is poised for transformation, and the partnership with Ather Energy aims to create an enabling environment for startups to contribute to EV manufacturing, battery innovation, and clean energy solutions.

Shweta Rajpal Kohli, who leads initiatives such as the DeepTech Advisory Board and #100DesiDeepTechs at the SPF, stressed that this partnership brings the Build in Bharat initiative to life. Tarun Mehta added that with policy support and stronger industry participation, this initiative could help founders tackle core technology challenges and scale high-quality products from India.

The collaboration is expected to support India's transition towards sustainable transport and create a more enabling environment for manufacturing-oriented startups. Ather Energy, an EV maker that competes with Ola Electric, will co-host talent and skill development initiatives as part of the MoU.

With this partnership, both DPIIT and Ather Energy are taking a significant stride towards cultivating a supportive environment for deeptech startups in India, contributing to the country's growth in clean mobility and advanced manufacturing sectors.
