DJI's debut robot vacuum, hinted by a recent leak, is reportedly nearing its launch and might achieve success in the high-end robovac market.

DJI's rumored robot vacuum-cum-mop, the DJI Romo, appears to be on the cusp of a release, as evidenced by photographs of a shipment of the devices.

China-based drone leaker OsitaLV shared a tweet featuring a picture of six boxed Romo vacuum cleaners neatly arranged on a pallet, hinting that the product could be ready to hit store shelves soon.

First hinted at in November 2024, the Romo has been the subject of much speculation since a leaked image suggested it had a unique design based on robot vacuum technology. Its impending release now appears very probable, especially given the photographic evidence.

While DJI has not officially confirmed the Romo's existence, initial whispers pointed to a device combining vacuum and mop functions, with additional features like individual room controls and pet detection.

More recent leaked images, purportedly showing the Romo's companion app, indicate that the device may compete with the best robot vacuums on the market by offering features such as automatic self-emptying and top-notch obstacle avoidance - an area where DJI's drones excel.

The Romo would mark DJI's entry into the robot vacuum market, a move that seems strategic given its expertise in automated motion, obstacle avoidance, and battery technology. DJI has produced ground-based robotic devices in the past, such as the RoboMaster S1.

Diversifying its product line could protect DJI, whose drone business may face challenges due to US tariff plans and regulatory hostility. The Mavic 4 Pro, DJI's new flagship camera drone, has not been launched in the US, even as the robot vacuum market remains ripe for disruption with no clear dominant manufacturer in sight.

This new robot vacuum could offer precise cleaning inspired by drone technology and leverage DJI's drone sensor expertise for navigation, promising impressive home mapping and obstacle avoidance capabilities. Initial industry speculation places it in the premium category, potentially positioning it above high-end competitors such as the iRobot Roomba J7+ (USD $800).

Stay tuned for updates on the DJI Romo as more information becomes available.

As the shipment of DJI Romo vacuum cleaners suggests, the release of DJI's robot vacuum-cum-mop seems imminent, joining a lineup of smart-home devices that harness technology to improve daily life. The anticipated features of the Romo, such as individual room controls, pet detection, automatic self-emptying, and top-notch obstacle avoidance, position it as a competitor among the best gadgets in the robot vacuum market.
