Mickey Mouse and Winnie the Pooh's latest horror production, titled "Mickey vs. Winnie," stands apart from previous horror projects featuring these characters.

Disney Characters Clash in Nightmarish Public Domain Spectacle: Mickey Mouse vs. Winnie the Pooh

Get ready, folks! It was only a matter of time before iconic childhood characters were exploited by horror movie makers, and now it's happening big time. Mickey vs. Winnie, a grisly showdown that the world may not be prepared for, is in the works. These beloved characters, once confined within the Disney vault, are ready to unleash terror.

Let's clarify a few things. Mickey vs. Winnie is not the same project as Mickey Mouse Trap, which surfaced in early 2024 following the release of Steamboat Willie-era Mickey Mouse from Disney's copyright grip. Neither is it part of the Twisted Childhood Universe, also known as the Poohniverse, originating from creators of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey. This new project, being produced in Michigan, is the brainchild of writer-director Glenn Douglas Packard.

According to a press release, the story goes like this: "In the 1920s, two convicts escape into a cursed forest, only to be consumed by its dark heart. A century later, a group of adventure-seekers unwittingly enter the same woods for a getaway. Their Airbnb retreat turns into a bloody nightmare when the convicts mutate into nightmarish versions of Mickey Mouse and Winnie-The-Pooh, determined to wreak havoc. As the group battles for their lives against their now twisted childhood heroes, Mickey and Winnie clash in a gruesome spectacle, leaving a trail of blood in a chilling display of the forest's cursed power."

While Mickey vs. Winnie shares similarities with the common "cabin in the woods" trope, it promises to bring something unique, especially in the portrayal of Mickey. In the press release, Packard asserted that this Mickey is far from any version audiences have seen before: "our Mickey is unlike anything audiences have encountered before. We're not using basic masks or regular costumes. Instead, we're creating live-action horror renditions of these beloved icons, combining innocence and evil in ways you haven't seen before."

As of now, there's no word on when Mickey vs. Winnie will be released or where you can catch it. What do you think of this public-domain horror project?
