When it comes to The Freestyle, three things immediately impressed us: its small stature, its ability to project enormous images, and its impressive auto-keystone and autofocus systems. This projector is like a chameleon, projecting a picture that's sure to impress, no matter the surface.
It runs on the same Tizen-based system used in Samsung's TV line-up and supports popular streaming apps such as Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV+, and more. The Freestyle even supports native 1080p resolution, along with HDR playback in the HDR10 and HLG flavors.
And, when all is said and done, we found the projector's image to be bright, sharp, and colorful. Plus, forget cumbersome cables thanks to the optional battery pack (sold separately), enabling cable-free movement from room to room.
We haven't reviewed the newer 2023 version on the market, but it seems to be very similar to the original model with the addition of the Samsung Gaming Hub and the ability to combine two projectors to create a larger, 21:9 image.
As we said in our review: "The Freestyle can be a surprisingly joyous device to live with and own." Now, it's within your grasp for just £389 at Richer Sounds, massively reduced from its £999 price tag when we initially reviewed it.
