Cyprus Seeds Hosts Technology Transfer Event to Boost Innovation

On July 30th, 2025, Cyprus Seeds, in collaboration with Diginn, hosted a Technology Transfer event. The event, held at an undisclosed location, brought together over 60 participants from academia, research institutions, and the startup ecosystem.

The evening's opening remarks were delivered by Ms. Maria Markidou Georgiadou, Founder & Managing Director of Cyprus Seeds. She emphasized the organization's mission to connect science and entrepreneurship. Dr. Konstantinos Kleovoulou, Director of Research and Innovation, Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, also delivered opening remarks.

The keynote address was delivered by Mr. John Cosmopoulos, Senior Associate Director of the Technology Transfer Office (TTO) at Tufts University. He shared insights into commercialization pathways, the role of TTOs, and real-world case studies from the biotech and medtech sectors. His talk highlighted international best practices for taking research "From Lab to Intellectual Property to Product."

Ms. Sophia Tsakiri, a lawyer holding an MBA with Technology Transfer expertise, co-founder of RENVIS and Chair of the Scientific Board of Tech Transfer and Intellectual Property in Greece, gave an expert talk. Her presentation, titled "From University to Market: The Role of Technology Transfer," explored the mechanisms, services, and strategic importance of TTOs in bridging the gap between research and market needs.

Cyprus Seeds expressed gratitude to the distinguished speakers and all attendees for their contributions and participation. This event is another step forward in Cyprus Seeds' mission to cultivate a thriving innovation ecosystem in Cyprus.

The event served as a platform for knowledge exchange, emphasizing the role of technology transfer in transforming research into real-world impact. It fostered meaningful dialogue through interactive Q&A sessions and provided valuable networking opportunities for researchers, entrepreneurs, and innovation stakeholders.

In addition to the keynote speeches, the event featured presentations from local startups and research institutions, showcasing their technology transfer activities and achievements. Cyprus Seeds itself has facilitated six spinoffs in areas such as IoT, health, energy, and art, underscoring the practical impact of technology transfer activities in Cyprus.

The event was held in partnership with the EU-funded DiGiNN initiative, thus playing a pivotal role in advancing Cyprus' innovation ecosystem and raising awareness about technology transfer's importance. Cyprus Tech was also involved in the event.
