Cutting-edge Energy Research Facility
The Future Energy Lab, established in 2021, serves as a central hub for all topics related to digitalization in the energy sector. Located in Germany, the lab aims to further strengthen the country's position as an innovation hub in the digitalization of the energy industry.
At the helm of the lab are two senior experts, Philipp Richard as the Head of Digital Technologies & Start-up Ecosystem, and Pierre Mücke as a Senior Expert in Digital Technologies & Start-up Ecosystem. Benedikt Pulvermüller heads the Digital Technologies Division.
The lab encourages submissions from individuals who have ideas about missing building blocks of the energy transition or visions for making the energy industry smarter and more sustainable. There is a possibility for the winning submissions to be developed into a pilot project in 2026.
The Future Energy Lab offers support to advance exciting solutions related to the energy transition. This support extends to the KEDi webinar, which will discuss allocation options for digital efficiency measures in heating systems on an upcoming date.
In addition to its own initiatives, the lab contributes to industry events such as the Future Energy Day, an annual industry event around digitalization & innovation in the energy industry.
The lab also collaborates with other organisations to foster discussions and innovations in the energy sector. For example, on October 15, SET Hub, in collaboration with the Startup Port in Hamburg and de:hub Lübeck, will host an event titled "AI for Grids" to discuss opportunities for start-ups.
The Future Energy Lab's efforts are not limited to local events. The lab has made significant contributions to the second edition of the Future Energy Magazine, published on 01.09.23. The magazine focused on cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and data governance, with experts from the Fraunhofer Institute providing insights.
The lab's mission and achievements are outlined in a published fact sheet, providing more information about the lab and its mission.
The Future Energy Magazine's first edition was published on 01.12.22, providing an overview of the Future Energy Lab's origins. The lab's website contributes to providing security and independence, ensuring stability in turbulent times.
The lab also hosts an idea competition, inviting submissions of innovative project ideas around the energy transition. The deadline for the idea competition is 30.09.2025, and the best submissions will receive 10,000 € in funding.
By fostering innovation, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas, the Future Energy Lab is shaping the digital future of energy systems.
