Creative Image Workshop: Fresh Perspective Unveils Innovative Vistas
The Image Creation Hub is set to open at Prolight + Sound 2025 in Frankfurt am Main from April 8 to 11, providing a premier platform for professionals in the event, film, and television industries to explore innovation and enhance their skills.
Central to the fair is the Image Creation Hub, an area that focuses on the entire production process of moving image content. Spanning approximately 740 m², the hub showcases the latest camera and lighting technologies, innovative tracking systems, and engaging workshops that enable visitors to witness the future of image creation firsthand.
The Speakers Area, modeled after a modern television studio, hosts an extensive program of lectures and live demonstrations throughout the event. Renowned experts will share practical knowledge on current topics such as lighting design, broadcast cameras, infinity lighting, and automatic tracking systems. Frank Trautmann, 1st chairman of the German Federal Association of Television Cameramen (BVFK), underscores the importance of camera work:
"The art of camera work lies in its invisibility – seamless movements, smooth perspective shifts, and precise sharpness that are present in every moment. Perfect image design appears intuitive and goes unnoticed. Even in the age of artificial intelligence, the unique creative touch of cameramen remains essential. With the Image Creation Hub, Prolight + Sound offers an ideal platform for examining the creative possibilities of modern camera and video technology and sharing expertise."
Artificial intelligence in camera technology will also be a topic of discussion, as smart assistance systems create new possibilities while the creative input of experienced cameramen remains indispensable.
The Camera College, a specialized training format for cameramen, film professionals, and technology enthusiasts, is a new addition to the Image Creation Hub. In a serene seminar room setting, high-profile instructors such as Nils Jahnke and Helmut Wagenpfeil will impart practical techniques related to camera work, lighting, and the latest video and film technology. Participants will receive a certificate of attendance upon completion of the course.
This year's workshops will focus on various topics, including the use of gimbals in production and the advantages and considerations of shooting in portrait format.
The Speakers Area offers daily short workshops and informative presentations by experienced professionals. Participants can learn about AI-controlled PTZ cameras, drone licenses, live demos with Steadicam, Polecam, and Gimbal, or deepen their knowledge of the ARRI TRINITY and ARTEMIS systems. The workshop on the ARRI TRINITY and ARTEMIS systems will be led by Curt Schaller, who recently received an Oscar for his concept, design, and development of the TRINITY 2 system.
The program for the Speakers Area includes discussions on OBSBOT AI-controlled PTZ cameras, ARRI TRINITY & ARTEMIS camera stabilizer systems, drone licenses, the art of film editing, MotionCam Essentials (Steadicam, Polecam, and Gimbal systems), as well as a focus on current industry topics. Guests will include legendary cameraman Jost Vacano, and talks will cover artificial intelligence and copyright challenges, sustainability in film and television, the movement of drones, cranes, and other equipment, copyright for cameramen, pseudo self-employment and social status determination procedures, and the Exposure Latitude System created by Edward Lachman.
An exhibitor area within the Image Creation Hub brings together well-known manufacturers and industry associations to showcase the latest technologies and innovations. Organizations such as the German Society of Cinematographers (BVK), Bundesverband Filmschnitt Editor (BFS), D4-Entertainment GmbH, Faderlux, FilmJump e.V., R-T-S, Silbersalz, and Tectum will be present, along with various companies, including Canon, Cine Brands Munich, Dedo Weigert Film, MLS | magic light + sound GmbH, MOO Video Productions, Sigma, Solectric (with DJI, OBSBOT, Z-CAM), and Transcontinenta.
Networking and industry exchange are crucial facets of the Image Creation Hub, and the area will feature a networking space open daily from 5:00 p.m. Here, visitors can engage in informative discussions with industry experts, forge valuable connections, and initiate new collaborations, particularly as technological advancements in the industry rapidly evolve.
This year, the Image Creation Hub will expand once again, underlining its significance in the industry and responding to the positive response received during its debut last year. Mira Woelfel, Director of Prolight + Sound, emphasizes the relevance of this platform:
"The Image Creation Hub signifies a strong commitment to the importance of image and video technology within the industry. Our successful initial launch demonstrated the pressing need for a platform fostering professional exchange and practical training in this field. I am delighted that we will be able to present an enlarged area to our visitors at the upcoming Prolight + Sound event. I would like to express my gratitude to the BVFK for their exceptional collaboration."
