Couple Avoids UK Travel Scam: Fake Sites Charge 5x Official Fee

A couple from Bad Berka narrowly avoided a hefty scam while trying to obtain an electronic travel authorization for the UK. The authorization, required since April 2023, has led to fraudsters creating unofficial websites with inflated prices.

The couple initially attempted to apply through what appeared to be an official site but was actually a fake. The site displayed charges five times the regular processing fee. Luckily, their credit card amount was only reserved, preventing any financial loss. The genuine application process involves using a certified website and paying a standard processing fee. The Jena Regional Police Headquarters has warned of such scams but no spokesperson's name was available for further comment.

Travelers to the UK are urged to be cautious and ensure they use the official government website for electronic travel authorization. The genuine service is affordable and secure, unlike the unofficial sites exploiting unsuspecting applicants.
