Countries Across the Globe Experience a Variety of Events
Elon Musk's social media platform X suffered a widespread outage starting on Thursday, May 22, 2025. The disruption affected users worldwide, with incidents reported on networks such as alloutages.de, Softoff Online, and Downdetector.
According to various sources, the problem persisted throughout the day, with more than 2,500 incidents reported at around 3 pm. This resulted in users experiencing difficulties posting content and updating timelines. However, the situation seemed to improve in the afternoon.
The analysis firm Netblocks reported outages for some users for the second time this week, with the international issues not being related to internet disruptions or filtering in specific countries.
The reported cause of the outage is a data center issue, as announced by X's Engineering account on Twitter. The team is actively working to resolve the problem. There were unconfirmed reports of a fire at an X-leased data center near Portland, Oregon, but it is unclear if this incident is directly linked to the outage.
In March 2025, X faced a similar disruption, resulting in users facing challenges accessing their feeds and sending messages. However, unlike the March incident, there was no official statement linking the May outage to external factors like a cyberattack.
