In a surprising turn of events, the Tesla Model Y did not lead the monthly battery-electric vehicle (BEV) market in October 2024 for the first time since October 2022. The Skoda Enyaq, a relatively new entrant, took the top spot with a record-breaking 11,188 registrations, marking its first-ever win in the BEV market.
The Skoda Enyaq's strong performance in October could potentially allow it to catch up with the Volvo EX30, which placed fifth in the top 10 BEVs with 5,441 registrations. Meanwhile, the Volvo XC60, the most popular plug-in hybrid (PHEV) in October, secured 5,658 registrations and a 6.9% market share.
The VW ID.4 took seventh position in the BEV market, with 51,394 registrations, while the VW ID.3 jumped up one position to eighth, with 46,288 registrations. The Audi Q4 e-Tron finished fourth in the top 10 BEVs, with 5,584 deliveries. The BMW iX1, with 43,404 deliveries, could overtake the MG4 if it maintains its strong form.
The European BEV market saw a 6.3% year-on-year increase in registrations in October 2024, totaling 169,723 units. The Tesla Model Y still leads the year-to-date BEV market with 164,017 units registered. The BMW i4 finished in 10th position with 37,407 registrations, and the Mercedes-Benz GLC experienced a 13.5% decline in registrations, with 3,283 units.
Overall, all-electric vehicle deliveries were down 1.4% in the year to date, with over 1.6 million units. PHEV volumes dropped by 8.4% in October 2024, and in the first 10 months of 2024, PHEVs fell by 4%, totalling 781,286 units.
It's worth noting that publicly available data does not specify the top-selling electric vehicles for Central and Western Europe in October 2024. However, early 2025 data from Sweden and Ireland shows that Volvo XC60 and Volkswagen ID. series models are among the best-selling electric cars in Sweden, while Hyundai Tucson and Tesla Model 3 are the top-selling electric vehicles in Ireland.
As European markets continue to adopt electric vehicles and new models enter the market, the competition is expected to intensify, making for an exciting and dynamic landscape in the world of electric vehicles.
