Construction firm deploys 100th Chevrolet Silverado Electric Vehicle for building projects
McKinstry, a US construction company, has taken delivery of its 100th Chevrolet Silverado EV, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to sustainable construction practices. With this addition, McKinstry now operates a total of 114 electric vehicles (EVs), including Chevy Blazer and Equinox EVs, BrightDrop 600 and 400 vans.
These EVs are currently deployed across McKinstry operations in Washington, Oregon, Colorado, and Texas, primarily used by plumbers, electricians, and sheet metal technicians. The vehicles have been customized for trade-specific work, featuring heavy-duty toolboxes, bed slides that double as workstations, and onboard power systems for running specialty tools.
To support this EV deployment, McKinstry is installing extensive EV charging infrastructure at its facilities nationwide and exploring innovative solutions for offsite charging. This includes efforts to enable charging outside the standard workplace or home settings, making fieldwork with EVs more practical and convenient for employees.
President and CFO of McKinstry, Joseph Hagar, stated that each EV advances innovation on their jobsites. Nearly three-quarters of McKinstry's EV fleet is used in the field, demonstrating the company's commitment to reducing emissions in day-to-day operations.
This fleet expansion and infrastructure development illustrate McKinstry’s commitment to sustainable construction practices and serve as a model for electrification in skilled trades supporting zero-emission goals. The latest data, from August 2025, affirms the ongoing nationwide deployment and charging infrastructure build-out by McKinstry.
