Consensus 2025: Africa's Crypto Industry Calls for Global Collaboration

The Web3 and digital assets industry's largest global event, Consensus 2025, has seen calls for international collaboration to boost Africa's crypto ecosystem. Buchi Okoro, CEO of Quidax, a Nigerian Exchange, made this plea at the event, which attracted notable speakers like Eric Trump and Charles Hoskinson.

Africa's representation in global Web3 events has been growing, albeit disproportionately low compared to other regions. While major events often lack African projects in speaker lineups and showcases, regional conferences like ETHSafari and Africa Blockchain Week are gaining traction. Okoro's call for global collaboration comes as Africa receives less than 2% of global Web3 venture funding, with hotspots in Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, and Ghana.

Challenges for African Web3 growth include infrastructure limitations, funding gaps, and visa issues for event participation. However, positive trends include emerging local hubs, youth engagement, and support from the African diaspora. African open-source Web3 developers remain a small percentage globally, but communities like Web3Bridge and Blockchain Developers DAO are expanding.

Consensus 2025, a large event for the Web3 and digital assets industry, has highlighted the need for global collaboration to boost Africa's crypto ecosystem. As African representation in global Web3 events grows, addressing challenges and leveraging positive trends will be crucial for the continent's Web3 development.
