Bavaria Initiates Nationwide Measurement Week to Address Mobile Network Dead Zones
In an effort to eliminate mobile network coverage gaps, Bavaria, Germany, has launched a nationwide measurement week. As stated by Economics Minister Hubert Aiwanger (Free Voters), poor network coverage can be particularly frustrating for businesses, and network and coverage are critical factors in location decisions.
Citizens are needed to help pinpoint the areas with network deficiencies. The first such week began when the Ministry of Economics announced its start. Individuals can report dead zones or conduct a broadband measurement via the official app of the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA). This data will improve network mapping.
Aiwanger highlighted the need for addressing these network dead zones, as there are still areas in need of immediate improvement. To this end, new antenna masts have been constructed with a 130 million euro funding program, and municipalities are being supported to build antenna masts, which can then be leased to network operators.
Residents of Bavaria and other parts of Germany interested in participating in the mobile network measurement week can follow these steps:
- Stay informed and sign up for official initiatives, checking announcements about national or regional mobile measurement campaigns from local, state, or federal authorities.
- Utilize dedicated measurement apps recommended by official campaigns, which can be downloaded on your smartphone. These apps collect information on signal strength, network availability, and service quality as you move.
- Contribute to open network maps and community mapping platforms that help authorities and operators identify coverage gaps and improve mobile connectivity.
- Participate in local events or information sessions focusing on digital infrastructure improvements in Bavaria.
By taking part in these initiatives, citizens help create more accurate network maps and push for better mobile connectivity in their region. For current campaigns, always refer to the latest announcements from the Bundesnetzagentur or your state government.
- The community is encouraged to contribute to improving the mobile network coverage by signing up for official initiatives and utilizing dedicated measurement apps, as outlined in the employment policy for digital infrastructure improvements in Bavaria.
- Employing technology such as measurement apps and open network mapping platforms, individuals can collect data on signal strength, network availability, and service quality to help retailers and operators in implementing the employment policy for better mobile connectivity, as advocated by the community policy in addressing the nationwide mobile network coverage gaps.
