Werner Becher, the CEO of Kambi Group, a leading B2B sports betting supplier based in Malta, has successfully secured a gaming license in Nevada. This approval, granted on January 31, 2025, marks a significant milestone for the company [1].

Becher's application with the Nevada Gaming Commission was scheduled for Aug. 21st, but the approval process was expedited. The approval eliminates the need for any further expected timelines for approval.

Kambi Group has been undergoing testing in Nevada, a process that is expected to be completed by the end of October, with additional testing by the end of November to submit their product to the Gaming Control Board for approval. Currently, approximately 55% of the testing has been completed [2]. However, an unexpected new reporting issue has surfaced during the testing process that needs to be addressed.

Becher, who founded a software company in 2003 and has held various executive positions in the sports betting industry, finds the rigorous licensing process in Nevada to be worth it due to the gold standard it represents. Nevada is known as the gold standard in the industry for licensing and offers a lot of experience and knowledge [3].

The testing is taking place at Bally's Lake Tahoe in Nevada, as part of a field test deal that Kambi Group has in place [4]. Kambi Group serves more than 50 operators in over 60 jurisdictions, including 20 states in the U.S. [5].

In order to focus on his role as CEO, Becher had to step down from other company boards he served on. He spends 50% of his time in his main office in London and travels the rest of the time to meet customers and staff [6]. As CEO, Becher is responsible for driving the global strategy for software development, trading, and risk management for customers [7].

Becher has applications pending in other states and is applying for a license in Nevada for the first time. He expressed that Nevada regulators dive deep into applicants' lives and a company's technology compared to other regulators [8]. Becher finds this level of scrutiny to be beneficial, as it ensures the highest standards are met.

The Nevada Gaming Control Board has recommended Becher for a gaming license in Nevada [9]. The Nevada Gaming Commission will consider the application on Aug. 21st [10]. Kambi Group currently has approximately 1,000 employees with offices in eight global locations, including Philadelphia [11].
