The British automaker MG has announced plans to enter the C-segment electric SUV market with the introduction of the MG MGS6 EV. This new model is expected to compete with established players like the Renault Scenic, Volkswagen ID.4, and Nissan Ariya.

According to MG UK's Product Manager, David Allison, the MGS6 EV is on the horizon. While the exact launch date for the MGS6 EV is yet to be confirmed, the vehicle has already been approved for sale in Australia, hinting at an imminent release in select regions around mid-2025.

The MGS6 EV is set to offer a competitive driving range, with rumours suggesting a battery capacity of up to 77 kWh, surpassing the battery capacity of the MG5S. However, the exact technical specifications, including motor configurations, range, and charging speeds, are yet to be officially confirmed.

In contrast, MG's IM6 electric SUV, a larger model above the MGS6, boasts a 100 kWh battery with variants offering up to 767 bhp and ranges up to 345 miles.

The MGS6 EV will fill the gap between the recently introduced MGS5 EV and the upcoming premium model IM 6. The base model of the MGS5 EV, priced at £37,990, has a range of 340 kilometers according to WLTP standards, while the long-range version, priced at a minimum of £44,990, offers a range of 480 kilometers. The MGS5 EV comes with a 49 kWh LFP battery in the base model and a 64 kWh NMC battery pack in the long-range version, which charges from 10% to 80% in 28 minutes.

Interestingly, MG has registered new vehicle designs in the EU that resemble the current compact SUV, hinting at a similar design language for the MGS6 EV. However, more details about the MGS6 EV's design are yet to be revealed.

The MGS6 EV, like the MGS5 EV, will not benefit from the advanced 800-volt architecture found in the higher-end IM models, meaning it may not offer the same fast charging speeds.

As we await more details about the MGS6 EV, it's clear that MG is committed to expanding its electric vehicle portfolio, offering a range of options to suit different segments and budgets. Stay tuned for more updates on the MG MGS6 EV.
