Campus unveils high-tech marketing plan: Rapid advancement in open site construction
Ingolstadt's DIGITAL.CAMPUS: A Hub for Innovative Digital Solutions
The city of Ingolstadt is set to transform its urban landscape with the development of the DIGITAL.CAMPUS, a new venture aimed at attracting technology-oriented companies from Germany and beyond. The strategic plan for this initiative was decided at a shareholders' meeting of IN-Campus GmbH on June 25, 2025.
The DIGITAL.CAMPUS, which will be developed on a 75-hectare site, formerly a refinery, aims to create a model quarter for intelligent, climate-neutral energy supply under the thematic field of Digital.energy & environment. The project is a collaboration between IN-Campus GmbH, Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL), and strategic guidelines, with Audi AG and the IFG for the city of Ingolstadt as shareholders.
The strategic orientation of the DIGITAL.CAMPUS is based on five thematic fields: Digital.mobility, Digital.defense & security, Digital.production & medtech, Digital.administration, and Digital.energy & environment.
Digital.mobility focuses on new forms of connected mobility, leveraging local expertise. The Digital.production & medtech thematic field offers potential for robotics, artificial intelligence, and medical technology. The Digital.administration thematic field focuses on digital services and AI applications in administration and corporate management. The Digital.energy & environment thematic field is dedicated to the development of intelligent, climate-neutral energy supply systems.
The DIGITAL.CAMPUS also aims to attract companies in the growing field of digital security and defense technology under Digital.defense & security. This thematic field takes into account a strategic field of action, leveraging existing competencies in the field of military technology and security technologies in the region.
The mayor, Dr. Michael Kern, emphasized that the thematic breadth and content precision of the clusters allow for the clever combination of location strengths and diversification strategies. He stated, "The DIGITAL.CAMPUS initiative emphasizes practical, challenge-based learning and collaboration between academia, industry, and municipal stakeholders, leveraging digital tools and entrepreneurial thinking to address environmental, social, and economic urban challenges."
A content profile for the future use of the site was presented in a press conference, outlining the ambitious plans for workplaces, research facilities, and innovation spaces with model character, directly at the interface between industry, science, and digitalization. The DIGITAL.CAMPUS is poised to become a hub for innovation and sustainable growth in Ingolstadt.
