Businessman Suleimanov Detained Over Alleged Murder Plot Spanning Decades

Businessman Ibrahim Suleimanov, known for his connections to the IT and aviation industries, has been detained on suspicion of planning multiple murders and attempted murders. Suleimanov, who co-owns several companies including Sirena-Travel, was remanded in custody on 2 October. More than forty searches have been conducted across Moscow, the Moscow region, and Daghestan as part of the ongoing investigation.

Suleimanov's alleged involvement spans over two decades. In 2001, he was suspected of attempting to murder lawyer Ilya Peregudov. In 2004, he is believed to have orchestrated the murder of Georgy Tal. Suleimanov was sentenced to 10 years and 10 months in prison for fraud in 2007, but was later released on parole.

The current investigation also links Suleimanov to the 1999 murder of Gennady Borisov, the leader of the Vnukovo Airlines trade union. Three men have been detained in Daghestan in connection with the case. Earlier, the alleged leader of an organised criminal group, Abakar Darbishev, was detained but later died in custody. Suleimanov is accused of being the mastermind behind these crimes, with several of his associates also detained as accomplices.

Suleimanov's detention follows a lengthy investigation involving multiple jurisdictions. He has been charged with planning two murders and one attempted murder. The investigation continues, with more details expected to emerge in the coming weeks.
