Business executive Rajesh Yabaji, head of BlackBuck, plans to relocate his office away from Bengaluru's Outer Ring Road due to poor road conditions and heavy traffic.
In a significant move, BlackBuck, one of India's largest trucking platforms, has announced its relocation from its Bellandur headquarters. The decision, made by Co-Founder and CEO Rajesh Yabaji, was prompted by severe commuting issues and poor road infrastructure in the area.
Rajesh Yabaji, before his role at BlackBuck, held management positions at ITC, Schindler, and Rio Tinto, and also had an academic affiliation with the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. He holds a dual degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur.
The average commute for BlackBuck employees has increased to 1.5 hours (one way), a factor that Yabaji deemed unacceptable. The roads in the area are filled with potholes and covered in dust, with a low intent to get them rectified. This situation has led to frustration among employees and criticism from the public on social media, with some users criticising local representatives for inaction.
Former Infosys CFO Mohandas Pai called the decision a "big failure of governance in Bangalore," while Biocon founder Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw said, "This is serious. Emergency measures needed to fix these issues." However, the news has also been met with praise for Yabaji, who is commended for prioritising employee welfare.
BlackBuck was founded in 2015 and has been based in Bangalore for nearly a decade. The company's relocation marks a significant change for both the tech industry and the city's infrastructure. It serves as a reminder of the need for improved road conditions and efficient governance to attract and retain businesses in the city.
As the company prepares for its move, it remains to be seen where BlackBuck will set up its new headquarters and how this decision will impact the tech industry in Bangalore.
