Business behind Gary Neville's The Overlap records profitable growth
Buzz 16 Productions, the production company founded by football pundit Gary Neville in 2016, has announced a significant financial turnaround for the year ending June 30, 2024. The company, which was previously reporting a pre-tax loss, has now posted a profit of £743,306, a notable improvement from the pre-tax loss of £180,365 reported the previous year [1].
Despite a slight decrease in turnover from £13.1 million to £11.8 million during the period, Buzz 16 has made substantial investments in its growth and production capabilities. The company's workforce increased significantly, rising from an average of 44 to 66 employees, and the wage bill surged from £1 million to £4.3 million [1].
The near doubling in value of Buzz 16's flagship show, *The Overlap*, has partly driven this profitability. The company also co-produced a documentary on Manchester United's treble-winning season for Amazon Prime, diversifying its production portfolio [1].
In a recent development, Miroma Group, a marketing group founded by Marc Boyan with around 20 marketing agencies in its portfolio, acquired a majority stake in Buzz 16 Productions in November 2022. The group, which includes Fold 7, the creative agency behind the Ted Baker brand and responsible for launching Muji and developing Orange Wednesdays, has announced IPO plans valuing the company at over £200 million [1].
Since the major ownership change, Buzz 16's accounts for its latest financial year, the 12 months to 30 June, 2025, are due to be filed with Companies House by the end of March 2026. No specific upcoming filings beyond standard annual reports have been announced yet, but IPO documentation filings may be expected in the future [1].
Meanwhile, Gary Neville has also ventured into the Swiss watchmaking industry. He joined the board of Norqain, a family-owned watchmaker founded in 2018 by Swiss former professional ice hockey player Mark Streit, in March, as it prepares to launch in the UK [2].
The total equity for The Overlap Limited, the company behind *The Overlap*, increased from £223,784 to £406,493 over the same financial year [2].
In a separate development, Miroma Group was considering a potential £1.2bn takeover of Channel 4 alongside Idris Elba in June 2022 [3].
