Broadcast TV Dominates Mexico's Viewing, Streaming Gains Ground
Mexico's television landscape remains dominated by broadcast television, which accounted for 33.6% of total viewing time in July 2025, according to Nielsen IBOPE's 'The Gauge' released on August 20, 2025. However, streaming services continue to gain traction, with a significant increase in consumption compared to the previous year.
Streaming platforms collectively captured 4.9 percentage points more viewing time in July 2025 compared to July 2024, reaching 24.6% of total television consumption. This steady advancement is reflected in the growth of individual platforms. Netflix led the market with the highest share among streaming services, followed by Disney+ and ViX. Pay TV services maintained their position with 11.6% of viewing time, trailing the combined streaming category but ahead of individual streaming platforms.
The 'Others' category, including live audience consumption of unmeasured channels, peripheral device usage, and periods of non-audio activity, accounted for 30.2% of total viewing time. Nielsen's expanded measurement methodology, covering a universe of 60,605,522 people aged four and above, provides a comprehensive analysis of television viewing patterns. The study, based on data from 1,650 households across 28 major cities, reflects the company's commitment to accurate streaming data collection.
Despite broadcast television's dominance, streaming services continue to make significant strides in Mexico's media landscape. With a consistent growth trajectory and increased market share, streaming platforms are reshaping the country's television viewing habits. Nielsen's expanded measurement methodology ensures a more accurate representation of these changes, providing valuable insights into the evolving media consumption patterns.
