Bonify Data Breach: Urgent User Action Needed After ID Theft

Bonify users are urged to monitor their accounts for suspicious activity following a data breach. The incident, involving the theft of personal data, affects those who registered using the Videoident process via ID Now.

Bonify has confirmed that identification documents and videos, mainly from Videoident procedures, were stolen. The exact number of affected users and the registration period remain undisclosed. This is not the first security incident for Bonify, as an activist previously discovered a potential security issue at launch.

The stolen data includes identification data, address data, photos, and videos. However, no password data, checking account information, or creditworthiness data has been compromised. Affected users will receive six months of free identity protection service.

Users whose ID documents were compromised may need to apply for a new ID and have the old one blocked. Bonify has informed affected customers via email and is cooperating with authorities to investigate the attack.

The data breach comes at a time when Schufa, Bonify's parent company, is trying to enhance consumer trust and introduce a new scoring system. Bonify users are advised to remain vigilant and report any identity fraud to Schufa.
