BMW's iX3 set for 2026 launch in Australia, with details on cost and features revealed
The automotive world is abuzz with excitement as BMW unveils its latest offering – the 2026 BMW iX3. This premium electric SUV promises to redefine driving experiences with its sportscar-like acceleration, advanced features, and a commitment to sustainability.
The iX3, set to commence deliveries around the middle of 2026 in Australia, boasts a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system that propels it from 0-100km/h in just 4.9 seconds. Under the hood, you'll find a 108kWh high-voltage battery powered by sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology, claimed to deliver an impressive driving range of up to 805km on the WLTP cycle.
Inside the light-filled and spacious cabin, drivers will find a panoramic glass roof and the new BMW Panoramic iDrive. This integrated system features a 17.9-inch central display, a 3D head-up display, and a full-width projected interface. The horizontally layered cockpit creates a wraparound effect for both driver and passengers, enhancing the overall driving experience.
The iX3's connectivity offers personalisation through BMW ID profiles, smartphone-based digital keys, video streaming, gaming, and over-the-air software updates. It also comes equipped with advanced driver assistance features such as adaptive cruise control, lane departure and change warning, front collision warning, and automated parking.
BMW has made a conscious effort to ensure the iX3's production and ownership are sustainable. The company claims a 34% reduction in lifecycle CO2 emissions compared to the previous model. Recycled and renewable materials are used throughout the vehicle's construction, including floor mats made of reclaimed plastics and aluminium components made from secondary raw materials.
The iX3 will be produced at BMW's new Debrecen plant in Hungary, with Australian production anticipated in 2026. However, the exact sales launch date in Australia has yet to be confirmed. The sales launch in Europe is planned for March 2026.
The iX3 offers 520 litres of boot storage with the rear seats in position. Nine colours will be available for the Australian-spec iX3 models, including new Polarised Grey metallic and Ocean Wave Blue metallic.
The iX3 debuts BMW's next-generation electronics and software platform. It also showcases standard features such as two-zone automatic climate control, an alarm system, telephony with wireless charging, seat heating, and electrically operated seat adjustment.
The iX3's recharging capabilities are equally impressive. It can be recharged from 10 to 80 per cent in only 21 minutes at a compatible 400kW DC fast charger.
