In the realm of online gaming, two significant events have caught the attention of fans recently. First, let's delve into the world of Turtle WoW, a fan-developed mod of World of Warcraft (WoW) that has been growing in popularity since its first server launch in 2018. Over the years, the group has expanded with additional servers to accommodate more players in different regions.

Meanwhile, Blizzard Entertainment, the creators of WoW, have been making strides with World of Warcraft: Classic, an official version of the original game experience launched in 2019.

Now, let's turn our attention to the upcoming expansion for the original WoW, World of Warcraft: Midnight. Details about this expansion were shared during Gamescom 2025, including the introduction of a new race called the Haranir. The storyline of World of Warcraft: Midnight continues the Worldsoul Saga narrative that began with 2024's expansion, The War Within. It is planned for release before June 30, 2026, but no exact release date has been announced yet.

One of the most anticipated features of World of Warcraft: Midnight is the long-requested Player Housing feature, allowing players to decorate their own homes in Azeroth.

Moving back to Turtle WoW, the developers have released numerous updates for Mysteries of Azeroth, a fan-made expansion story for WoW Vanilla that delves deeper into exploring the original lore of the game. The developers plan to release an updated version of the game, Turtle WoW 2.0, that rebuilds the client in Unreal Engine 5. Interestingly, the developers accept but do not require donations.

However, Blizzard Entertainment has filed a lawsuit against the owners of Turtle WoW, alleging that they are using Blizzard's artwork, trademarks, and official code.

On a different note, unionization has been a significant trend among Blizzard teams. Over 450 developers, artists, and engineers from the Diablo team recently unionized under the Communications Workers of America (CWA) to improve pay, job security, workplace conditions, and to protect against layoffs and uncertain industry changes following Microsoft's acquisition and restructuring efforts. Several other Blizzard teams, including the World of Warcraft, Overwatch 2, and Story and Franchise teams, have also unionized.

These developments highlight the vibrant and evolving landscape of online gaming, with both official releases and fan-made projects continuing to captivate players worldwide.
