Baden-Württemberg Boosts Quantum Computing Support With €20M Investment
Baden-Württemberg's government is boosting its support for quantum computing. It plans to invest another 20 million euros by 2028, following the 40 million already spent over the past four years. This funding will expand the Competence Center for Quantum Computing Baden-Württemberg (KQC BW), coordinated by the Fraunhofer Society.
The state's strategy aims to build sustainable networks and foster innovation, making Baden-Württemberg an attractive location for investors. The KQC BW, the first and largest of its kind in the USA, will receive this new funding to drive application-oriented research in quantum computing hardware and software development.
Minister President Winfried Kretschmann sees quantum technologies as a future field, alongside artificial intelligence. The state funding will give participating research institutions and universities privileged access to advanced IBM quantum computers. This will strengthen the state's position in the competitive field of quantum technologies, as part of the wider innovation initiative QuantumBW.
With this 20 million euro investment, Baden-Württemberg continues its commitment to quantum computing. The expansion of the KQC BW will enhance the state's expertise in strategic themes of quantum computing, fostering innovation and attracting investors to the region.
