The remote got an upgrade too, featuring a metallic-accent front plate and backlit buttons that make it impossible to lose in the couch cushions at night. And don't even get me started on the sound—the built-in Bang & Olufsen speakers are a game changer. You won't need another sound system with the QM8K roaring along.
Color accuracy is nearly perfect right out of the box, thanks to TCL's Filmmaker Mode. Delta E averages an impressive 0.23, with a max error of 0.94, making a full calibration unnecessary for most users. Gamut coverage is excellent, covering over 99% of sRGB, and 83.2% of Adobe RGB. The "Standard Mode" SDR preset, on the other hand, is a disaster—swap to Filmmaker Mode immediately.
The brightness on the QM8K is not just impressive—it's astounding. Hitting a peak of 5,000 nits in HDR, it's one of the brightest TVs on the market. Keep in mind that my testing device could only read up to 3,000 nits, so it's likely that the panel on the QM8K could push even higher in perfect conditions. Peak brightness readings while watching actual content averaged about 1,400 nits in the brightest spots.
Reflections on the screen were a slight issue, with even dim lamps causing substantial reflections. But overall brightness in the room isn't an issue, as the QM8K can easily handle a sunlit room.
The TCL QM8K is TCL's boldest attempt yet at capturing market share in the premium TV segment and represents a leap forward in both technology and performance over previous models. And the best part?
