Artist Pablo Delcan's 'Prompt-Brush 1.0' Explores Human Connection Through Art
Artist Pablo Delcan has created a unique collection of hand-drawn illustrations, 'Prompt-Brush 1.0', based on text prompts from the public. The project, now a book, offers a touching exploration of human connection through art.
Delcan, known for his editorial work, found joy in focusing on individual prompts, unlike his usual mass-oriented pieces. The majority of prompts were about animals, with cats being the most popular. However, one prompt, 'Forgiveness', left him stumped initially. Delcan found inspiration in a personal experience, turning the prompt into a poignant illustration.
One of the most moving pieces depicts a woman who lost her father to Alzheimer's. Both Delcan and designer Debbie Millman found this illustration particularly resonant. Each of the 234 illustrations in the book shares a common thread: a human connecting with another through a hand-drawn response to a question.
Delcan's process was guided by three rules: drawing the first thing that came to mind, using the same brush, ink, and paper, and completing each piece in under two minutes. In an interview in his book, Delcan discussed the irony of the project's repetitive nature with an AI named Echo, likening it to becoming a machine himself.
Pablo Delcan's 'Prompt-Brush 1.0: The First Non-AI Generative Art Model' is available for purchase through independent bookstores, supported by the Book Club. The book is a testament to the power of human connection and the beauty of simple, honest art. Delcan's unique approach to art creation offers a refreshing perspective on generative art, proving that sometimes, the first thought is the best one.
