CD PROJEKT RED, developers of The Witcher 4, affirm their commitment to maintaining the "no fetch quest" policy, as seen in The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. My appreciation for this decision is apparent.

Appreciative that The Witcher 4 avoids a bothersome RPG pattern — a fundamental Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 approach persists in the sequel.

In an exciting development for fans of the Witcher series, CD PROJEKT RED, the acclaimed developers behind The Witcher 4, have announced that the upcoming game will follow a no fetch quest policy, similar to their previous RPGs such as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077.

The Witcher 4 is set to release on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and PS5, with industry estimates suggesting a 2027 release date or later. CD PROJEKT RED confirmed the game’s existence in 2022, and it was officially revealed at The Game Awards in December 2024. However, a specific release date has yet to be confirmed, and the game is still in active development, having recently entered full production.

CD PROJEKT RED’s approach to quest design has been a standout feature of its games, with quests often featuring surprising twists, complex situations, and thought-provoking choices. This philosophy will continue in The Witcher 4, as the team aims to preserve the core quest design principles from The Witcher 3 while allowing creative freedom for designers.

Narrative Director Philipp Weber, who also worked as a Quest Designer on The Witcher 3, emphasized the importance of making players care deeply about their actions in the game. He stated that quests should be interesting and provide a satisfying experience for players.

The Witcher 4 will be developed using Unreal Engine 5, and the game will reportedly feature the Northern Kingdom of Kovir. The main character in this new installment will be Ciri, marking the beginning of a new trilogy.

For those who can't wait for The Witcher 4, CD PROJEKT RED's previous titles, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077, are currently available at a discounted price on CDKeys. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition can be purchased for $13.19, while Cyberpunk 2077's Ultimate Edition is available for $35.69, and the Xbox Standard Edition for $6.89.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt won Game of the Year in 2015, and both games were praised for their lack of fetch quests and the engaging and creative nature of their quests. The absence of fetch quests and the engaging nature of CD PROJEKT RED's quests are reasons why fans continue to replay the developer's games long after their release.

CD PROJEKT RED's commitment to delivering a deep, narrative-rich RPG experience aligns with the high standards established by the previous Witcher titles. With The Witcher 4, fans can expect another emotionally engaging, well-crafted quest-driven RPG from the developers of The Witcher series.
