Apple Rolls Out ECG App and Irregular Rhythm Notification on Select Apple Watch Models

Apple has rolled out its ECG app and irregular rhythm notification feature on select Apple Watch models in certain countries. The app, available on Apple Watch Series 4 and later, requires an iPhone 5s or newer running iOS 12.2. However, it's crucial to note that these features do not diagnose heart attacks, blood clots, strokes, or other heart-related conditions.

The ECG app, which turns the Apple Watch into an electrocardiogram, is designed to identify heart rhythm irregularities suggestive of atrial fibrillation. It's available on Apple Watch Series 4 and later, and requires an iPhone 5s or newer with iOS 12.2. Meanwhile, the irregular rhythm notification feature, which can alert users to possible atrial fibrillation, is available on Apple Watch Series 1 and later, with the same iPhone and iOS requirements.

Apple provides contact information for media inquiries through its Apple Media Helpline. The specific email for media help is [email protected]. Anna Tabet ([email protected]) and Sean Redding are the named contacts for press inquiries.

The ECG app and irregular rhythm notification feature on Apple Watch, while innovative, are not meant to replace professional medical advice. They serve as tools for users to monitor their heart health, but any abnormal results should be discussed with a healthcare provider.
