Apple Maps Rolls Out Major Updates: Look Around, Indoor Navigation & More
Apple has rolled out a series of updates to its Maps app, bringing more realistic directions, improved navigation, and new features to users in the United States and beyond.
The most notable addition is 'Look Around', allowing users to explore major cities in a Street View-like experience. Additionally, Indoor Maps now covers airports and malls, helping users navigate and locate specific points within these venues.
Real-time transit information is now available in Miami, with more cities to follow. The app also introduces a 'Flyover' feature, offering immersive 3D views of over 350 cities worldwide.
Apple Maps has seen significant improvements in road coverage and pedestrian data, providing more precise addresses and detailed land cover. Users can now create and share collections of their favorite places, and quickly navigate to frequent locations with the 'Favorites' feature. Flight status information is also proactively served using on-device Siri intelligence.
The 'Share ETA' feature enables users to send their estimated time of arrival to contacts with a single tap. Future updates promise enhanced real-time transit and indoor maps in selected cities, with optimized details such as elevation, roads, buildings, and landmarks.
