Apple Maps Expands EV Routing, Nissan to Integrate
Apple Maps has expanded its Electric Vehicle (EV) Routing feature, now available in more regions. This update comes with enhanced functionality, including alternative routes to charging stations when a vehicle's charge is critically low. Nissan has announced plans to integrate this feature into their vehicles.
Apple Maps' EV Routing, initially announced in 2020 with partners Ford and BMW, optimizes charging stops based on charger availability, charging speed, topography, and driving speeds. The feature can accommodate multi-stop navigation routes, introduced in iOS 16. Porsche's Taycan model will also benefit from this functionality.
Ford has already integrated the EV routing feature in the Mustang Mach-E, but BMW has not yet done so. Speculation suggests further enhancements could be announced at the upcoming WWDC 2023 and iOS 17 release.
Apple Maps' EV Routing feature provides a convenient and efficient way for EV owners to plan their journeys. With Nissan's upcoming integration and potential enhancements, this feature is set to become even more useful for EV drivers.
