Amprius Chosen for Amazon's Climate Tech Rapid Development Program

Amprius Technologies, Inc., a leading innovator in next-generation lithium-ion batteries, has been chosen to join the 2025 cohort of the Amazon Devices Climate Tech Accelerator. This programme, a part of Amazon's broader commitment to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040 through The Climate Pledge, aims to support companies developing technologies that could help reduce the carbon footprint of Amazon's devices and operations.

The selection process prioritised climate impact and innovation potential, and Amprius' participation highlights the importance of advanced batteries in accelerating electrification and reducing carbon emissions across industries. Amprius' SiCore battery platform, featuring Silicon Anode lithium-ion cells that achieve up to 80% higher energy density than conventional lithium-ion batteries, has strong potential to reduce the carbon footprint of Amazon devices. By increasing energy density, SiCore batteries reduce the weight and frequency of battery replacements or recharges, resulting in less resource consumption and lower operational emissions over the device lifecycle.

This technology aligns directly with Amazon’s net-zero carbon goal by 2040. It enables longer device runtimes, reducing the energy demand and waste associated with frequent charging or battery swaps. It also potentially decreases the total number of battery units needed, thus reducing material extraction, manufacturing emissions, and end-of-life waste. Moreover, supporting lightweight, energy-dense batteries could be incorporated into Amazon’s range of devices, making them more energy efficient in usage and transport, lowering indirect emissions.

Amprius SiCore batteries have already been applied in the aerospace and defence sectors for extended drone and UAV endurance, demonstrating durability and performance that could translate to consumer electronics or Amazon's operations where energy efficiency and carbon reduction are critical considerations.

Juliette Devaney, Head of the Amazon Devices Climate Tech Accelerator, expressed her excitement about Amprius' selection, stating, "We're thrilled to have Amprius Technologies as part of our 2025 cohort. Their advanced battery technology has the potential to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of our devices, contributing to our goal of reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2040."

Dr. Kang Sun, CEO of Amprius Technologies, Inc., expressed interest in exploring how their silicon anode technology could provide more efficient and lightweight energy solutions in industrial, consumer electronics, and mobility-focused platforms.
