Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) unveil AI-powered tool for mountain bike announcers
Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) Sports Europe has announced the launch of Cycling Central Intelligence (CCI), an innovative AI-powered platform designed to revolutionise coverage of the WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series. The platform was developed in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and will make its debut at the series opener this weekend in Araxá, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
CCI aims to streamline research for commentators and production teams by providing instant access to comprehensive information about riders, venues, and race histories through natural language queries. This feature is expected to significantly reduce research time, allowing for a more focused and efficient production process.
The platform will incorporate additional features throughout the season to improve live content and viewing experiences. AWS has been named the Official Cloud Infrastructure, AI, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning Provider for the WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series, ensuring a seamless and technologically advanced experience for viewers.
Live and on-demand coverage of every race will be available through WBD's channels and platforms, including Max and discovery+, as well as through broadcast partners worldwide. Streaming will be managed by Amazon Bedrock, which ensures that broadcasting professionals maintain control over the storytelling process.
Chris Ball, Vice President of Cycling Events at WBD Sports, stated that CCI enhances and complements human expertise in sports broadcasting. He emphasised that the platform is designed to empower commentary teams to deliver richer, contextual storytelling to better connect fans with their favourite sport.
Samira Panah Bakhtiar, General Manager of Media & Entertainment, Games, and Sports at AWS, mentioned that AWS' generative AI services can amplify human expertise. She highlighted that CCI leverages advanced generative AI capabilities of Amazon Bedrock and Anthropic's Claude 3.5 on AWS to create a unified knowledge base.
The technical architecture of CCI utilises Amazon Textract, Amazon Translate, Amazon Comprehend, and Amazon Bedrock, ensuring a robust and efficient system. The launch of CCI takes place at the 2025 WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series season opener in Araxá, Minas Gerais, marking a significant step forward in the integration of AI technology in sports broadcasting.
