Alternative Fuel Training Organization, AFVi, is introduced by the Natural Gas Vehicle Institute (NGVi) to accommodate the increasing need for training in the alternative fuel field.

NGVi Expands Scope with Launch of AFVi for Alternative Fuel Training

The Natural Gas Vehicle Institute (NGVi) has taken a significant step forward in its mission to become a world-class training organization for all alternative fuels. On May 1, 2023, at the Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo in Anaheim, California, NGVi announced the launch of the Alternative Fuel Vehicle Institute (AFVi).

AFVi, an expansion of NGVi's scope, is dedicated to promoting and supporting the adoption of alternative fuel vehicles. The institute aims to provide training, education, and resources to help fleets and stakeholders transition to cleaner transportation technologies using natural gas, hydrogen, propane, and electric vehicles.

NGVi's Vice President and General Manager, Annalloyd Thomason, noted that the growth in demand for alternative fuel training prompted the development of AFVi. Thomason and her team are excited for the opportunities ahead and are open to connecting with companies interested in learning more about AFVi's training offerings.

AFVi's team is currently developing driver, technician, and fleet management training content for various alternative fuels. The new courses will cater to light-, medium-, and heavy-duty fleets, ensuring that they meet the same high standard that secured NGVi's recognition as the only ASE-accredited training provider in the alternative fuels industry.

AFVi's launch comes as many fleets are diversifying their fuel sources. NGVi recognizes this trend and aims to provide comprehensive training to help these fleets navigate the transition to alternative fuels. Thomason noted that many of their customers had asked about training for alternative fuels, and AFVi's development is a response to this demand.

AFVi will provide training for drivers, vehicle technicians, and fueling station personnel. The institute's focus on promoting and supporting the adoption of alternative fuel vehicles will help facilitate industry growth by offering technical expertise and facilitating the deployment of such vehicles.

With the launch of AFVi, NGVi aims to transition from a training organization specializing in natural gas to a world-class training organization in all alternative fuels. The expansion of NGVi's scope to include AFVi reflects the growing demand for alternative fuel training and NGVi's commitment to meeting that demand.

As AFVi continues to develop and deliver high-quality training content for the alternative fuel industry, it is poised to play a significant role in the transition to cleaner transportation technologies.

Businesses in the energy sector, such as fleets, are increasingly diversifying their fuel sources, leading to a higher demand for alternative fuel training. Recognizing this trend, the Alternative Fuel Vehicle Institute (AFVi), an expansion of the Natural Gas Vehicle Institute (NGVi), aims to provide technical education and resources for various alternative fuels including natural gas, hydrogen, propane, and electric vehicles in the finance and technology sectors.
