Sunil Gopinath brings over 25 years of experience in leading and scaling global operations to his new role. Before joining Albertsons, he was the CEO of Rakuten India, where he led technology teams and spearheaded digital transformation initiatives. Gopinath's background in retail, e-commerce, and digital technology makes him an ideal fit for the role.
The technology hub's primary goal is to enhance the shopping experience for Albertsons' more than 40 million weekly customers. It aims to improve the company's core systems, expand the use of AI and data science, and drive digital transformation across its business. The hub will focus on building modern, scalable tech solutions to achieve these objectives.
Gopinath is tasked with shaping the Bengaluru global capability center into a powerhouse of retail technology. Anuj Dhanda, a senior executive at Albertsons, expressed his confidence in Gopinath's ability to lead the hub. "Sunil's deep expertise in scaling innovation hubs and leading digital initiatives makes him the ideal leader for the Bengaluru global capability center," Dhanda said.
The technology hub will work closely with counterparts in the U.S. and Manila. Over the next 18 months, the hub plans to grow its team significantly.
