Alberta is stepping onto the global online gaming stage with the iGaming Alberta Act, an exciting move to boost its online gambling sector. Introduced on a Wednesday, this draft law is set to supervise private-sector businesses offering online sports betting and casino games, in addition to the province's existing operations via Play Alberta 🎰.

But why the change? Well, despite Play Alberta being the sole authorized platform, many Albertans are playing on unregulated offshore sites that lack proper oversight. These platforms reportedly account for over half of the province's online gambling activity 😮.

The proposed law would usher in a regulated environment, allowing private operators to secure licenses and legally offer their services with Alberta's oversight. This approach mirrors the strategy adopted by Ontario, which jumped into the regulated iGaming scene in 2022

With the iGaming Alberta Act, Alberta aims to address the issue of unregulated gambling by introducing a licensed digital environment for sports betting and casino games, integrating technology to supervise and compete with offshore platforms.
