Renowned Audiobook Narrator Rufus Beck Expresses Concern Over Artificial Intelligence and Its Potential Impact on Creatives

In an interview, German audiobook narrator and actor Rufus Beck has voiced his concerns about the growing influence of artificial intelligence (AI) on his profession. He believes that as AI becomes increasingly adept at mimicking human voices, it may pose a threat to voice actors and narrators.

Beck, who became famous for narrating the German versions of the Harry Potter audiobooks, pointed out that AI could replace human actors for spoken roles in books or even synchronize foreign productions using AI-generated voices. "AI may not have a personality or emotions, but it is all about the content," he said.

However, the narrator suggested that voice actors could protect their profession by interpreting texts in a unique way. He did not elaborate on what he meant by unique interpretation.

Beck also expressed criticism towards the continued adaptation of the Harry Potter series, stating that author Joanne Rowling could have ended the story with the last book but instead chose to continue it with Harry's son. He stated that the series represents a popular and profitable intellectual property, and as a result, has been re-adapted multiple times.

Beck added that he has not watched any of the Harry Potter films to avoid being influenced during the audiobook recordings.
