AI-Generated Far-Right Music Gains Traction on Spotify, YouTube, TikTok
Spotify, YouTube Music, and TikTok are struggling with an alarming trend: AI-generated music with far-right content is gaining traction on their platforms. Music journalist Melanie Gollin has received such songs as recommendations.
The songs, with titles like 'Fly, German Eagle' and 'Body and Life', blame refugees and queer people, and long for the 'good old days'. They've been streamed thousands of times, far surpassing the reach of the NPD's 'schoolyard CDs' from the early 2000s. One artist, Traditionshüter, has released numerous Nazi-themed songs, amassing significant plays due to algorithm-driven dissemination.
The creators reject right-wing labels, claiming to speak the truth and refuse silence. However, experts like Theodor W. Adorno warn that keeping these issues quiet is ineffective. The music and its creators should be identified as right-wing extremist. Accounts promoting this content have followers ranging from a few thousand to over a hundred thousand, with the AI detector leading users to similar content.
The prevalence of AI-generated far-right music on major platforms raises serious concerns. These platforms must address the issue, balance freedom of expression with hate speech prevention, and work towards a safer listening environment.
