AI company IdentifAI secures €5M funding for developing an AI-based platform to combat the growing issue of deepfakes through detection technology
IdentifAI, an Italy-based startup, has secured €5 million in a funding round led by United Ventures to expand its AI-generated disinformation detection technology and strengthen its international presence. The company, founded by cybersecurity experts Marco Ramilli and Marco Castaldo, aims to build a global company to protect truth on a global scale.
The funding will primarily support IdentifAI's international expansion, particularly into European markets and the United States. The company already has a team of high-calibre AI and security specialists in these regions, and the new investment will help consolidate its presence. The funds will also accelerate research and development efforts to continuously perfect the accuracy and performance of IdentifAI's detection models.
The global AI market is projected to grow significantly, with a 25-fold increase from €189 billion in 2023 to $4.8 trillion by 2033. This growth presents a challenge in distinguishing AI-generated content from real human creations, a challenge that IdentifAI aims to address with its platform. The company has developed an AI system capable of accurately identifying whether content, such as images, videos, or voice recordings, has been generated or altered by AI.
Public concern about AI-generated disinformation is growing, with nearly 70 per cent fearing it could be used to mislead or manipulate them. An overwhelming 84 per cent believe synthetic media should be clearly labelled. However, around 60 per cent reported difficulty in telling the difference between AI-generated and human-made content.
IdentifAI's mission is to preserve the authenticity of human expression and empower people to navigate a digital world where the line between real and artificial is increasingly blurred. The company's motto is We Stand For Truth. United Ventures' Managing Partner, Massimiliano Magrini, commented that IdentifAI is building technology to address one of the most pressing challenges created by the rapid advancement of AI: distinguishing what's real from what's not.
This investment follows a €2.2 million seed round raised less than a year ago and supports IdentifAI’s mission to equip businesses and individuals with reliable tools against AI-generated disinformation. IdentifAI is positioned as one of Europe's most promising players in the fight against disinformation, addressing a growing $4.8 trillion AI market with rising risks of disinformation.
The funding received by IdentifAI will be utilized to expand its presence internationally, particularly in European markets and the United States, and strengthen its team of AI and security specialists. United Ventures' Managing Partner, Massimiliano Magrini, highlighted that IdentifAI is building artificial-intelligence technology to address one of the most pressing challenges arising from the rapid advancement of AI: distinguishing what's real from what's not in the global AI market.
