Advancement of Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6: Gradually Navigating Toward Improvement

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6, launched in July 2024, has proven to be a top-tier foldable smartphone, offering improvements that have made it a favourite among tech enthusiasts.

The device boasts a 6.7-inch foldable AMOLED main display, minimising the crease for a smoother look. The cover screen, measuring 3.4 inches, is larger than its predecessor, offering resizable widgets for enhanced usability. Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy (4nm) chipset, paired with 12GB RAM and options for 256GB or 512GB UFS 4.0 storage, the Z Flip 6 delivers a powerful performance.

The device sports an upgraded 50MP main camera, a 10MP front selfie camera, and offers durable build quality with IP48 water resistance and Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The battery capacity is 4,000 mAh, supporting 25W wired and 15W wireless charging. It runs Android 14 with One UI 6.1.1, benefitting from 7 years of software updates, including security and OS upgrades. The device weighs 187 grams and is priced starting at around $1,100 / €1,199 for the 256GB model.

As we look forward, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is expected to take things further, ushering in several new AI-powered features with One UI 7 based on Android 16. The Z Flip 7 will include advanced AI capabilities such as real-time translation, document summarization, night video enhancement, upscaling of older clips, live call transcription, instant voice-to-translation calls, and AI wallpaper generation.

The device is rumoured to have a slightly larger 6.85-inch main display and a bigger 4-inch cover screen. The processor upgrades to either Snapdragon 8 Elite or Exynos 2500, maintaining 12GB RAM and similar storage options. Battery capacity increases to 4,300 mAh with potentially faster charging. The camera system is expected to remain similar with a 50MP main, 12MP ultrawide, and 10MP selfie cameras, but with software AI enhancements improving overall imaging performance.

The Galaxy Z Flip 6, despite being overshadowed by newer models, remains one of Samsung's favourite flip phones, due to its solid hardware and reliable software experience. One UI 7, the latest software update for the Galaxy Z Flip 6, has transformed the phone, making animations more fluid and introducing features like a vertically scrolling app drawer, a revamped quick settings/notification panel, live notifications, a new Now Bar, and a redesigned multitasking view.

Samsung has added a new button with One UI 7 that somewhat streamlines the option to add cover screen apps. However, the Razr Plus 2024 offers a better cover screen experience than the Galaxy Z Flip 6, due to a larger screen, the ability to use apps out of the box, cover screen multitasking, and a more connected experience overall.

The camera on the Galaxy Z Flip 6, despite being limited to two sensors, has been upgraded to a 50MP primary camera, and Samsung continues to make the best of the situation, providing pleasing images in most lighting conditions. The device can keep up with the new Motorola Razr Ultra 2025 in terms of image quality in good lighting conditions, but falls behind in zoom quality and low-light performance. The Galaxy Z Flip 6's digital zoom quality somewhat compensates for the lack of a telephoto camera, maintaining a good level of detail even at higher zoom ranges.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is expected to launch with notable changes and upgrades, including a larger cover screen, a thinner chassis, a larger battery, and a more powerful chipset. Samsung is also expected to introduce the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, a more affordable flip phone option compared to the Z Flip 7. One UI 8, the next major update for the Galaxy Z Flip 6, is already in beta for the Galaxy S25 series and is expected to bring upgrades to features like AI Select, Reminders and Routines, Auracast, and more.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 and smartphones like it showcase the latest advancements in technology, featuring both a large foldable AMOLED main display and a larger cover screen than previous models. With the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy chipset, the device offers powerful performance and upgraded camera capabilities, making it a popular choice among tech enthusiasts.

In the near future, the expected Galaxy Z Flip 7 will build upon these features, introducing AI-powered functions such as real-time translation, document summarization, and enhanced camera performance through software AI enhancements. These developments demonstrate the continued evolution of gadgets, with smartphones like the Galaxy Z Flip series at the forefront of technological innovation.
