Actor Ben McKenzie Unveils Cryptocurrency Documentary Titled 'Money Luring Deception'

Hyperventilate Over SCENECrypto critic and small-screen star, Ben McKenzie, is storming into the director's chair for his first-ever film debut at SXSW London in June 2025. This bombshell revelation is courtesy of Deadline.

His much-anticipated documentary, "'Everyone Is Lying to You for Money'," exposes the underbelly of the cryptocurrency universe. McKenzie, famous for his stellar performances in "The O.C." and "Gotham," reveals the sinister side of the crypto world in this hard-hitting expose.

In his conversation with Deadline, McKenzie said, "When I started shouting about crypto fraud in 2021, I caught some serious heat from the bros online. Fast forward, and quite a few of them are doing time, while millions of investors are feeling the burn."

The film features enlightening sit-downs with prominent characters within the crypto sphere, such as Sam Bankman-Fried, the disgraced founder of FTX, who received a hefty 25-year prison sentence in 2024. Another high-profile figure interviewed is Alex Mashinsky, co-founder of the now-defunct Celsius, due in court for sentencing on May 8, 2025. Both interviews were secured before their companies went belly-up in July (FTX) and November 2022 (Celsius), respectively.

McKenzie dove headfirst into the crypto game in 2021, smack dab in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, he hasn't held back from unleashing his venomous criticism, even testifying before the U.S. Senate Banking Committee about FTX's catastrophic collapse.

Keep an eye out for McKenzie's book, co-written with journalist Ben Silverman, "Easy Money: Cryptocurrency, Casino Capitalism, and the Golden Age of Fraud," released in 2023. The book divulges many of the same revelations as the upcoming documentary.

"What's the deal with the persistent crypto charade? That's the question I embarked on to answer with this film," McKenzie hinted. "I can't wait for audiences to lay their eyes on 'Everyone Is Lying to You for Money'—a laugh-riot that treats crypto and its sketchy purveyors with the contempt they utterly deserve: none."
